The October 8th, 2005 killer earthquake caused heavy damage to human lives and property in Northern Pakistan and many parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Over 80,000 died, thousands got injured and millions became homeless in o few seconds. Thousands became disabled by losing their lambs. Hundred became incapacitated after sustaining spinal injuries. In the earthquake hit areas, basic infrastructure like school buildings, hospitals, roads, water supply, etc. were also destroyed. On the appeal of some humanitarians, the people of Ireland donated generously to help the earthquake affect. To organize the activities and to make the whole process transparent, a trust was formed by the name of South Asia Earthquake Appeal, Lucan, and Dublin, Ireland.

This charitable organization under the dynamic leadership of Ms. Wendy Fair arranged adequate funds for the procurement of medicines, surgical instruments and order commodities for the earthquake survivors. The relief and rehabilitation operations were carried out by members of the South Asia Earthquake Appeal in Pakistan. After fulfilling the needs of operation theaters of field hospitals in Muzafarabad, Azad Jammu Kashmir, the trustees decided to utilize surplus funds to establish a Rehabilitation Centre in Abbottabad, Pakistan.
